Lecture Series for Modern College of Arts, Science and Commerce. Rotary Club of Pune Shivajinagar is trying through this lecture series, to ensure that during the lockdown with colleges closed, the students get to hear virtually from experts on socially relevant topics. Chief Guest and Speaker Rtn. Manjoo Phadke spoke on Gender Equality. She explained that while birth of a girl child is entirely due to man, it is the woman who gets the blame in some of our societal groups. Who you are as a person, your qualities and skills and capabilities; all these take a back seat if you are a girl. Boys are told from a young age to be brave, strong while girls are brought up to be shy and to learn cooking. Instead people must raise their children to be good human beings. At work the job profile is the same but women get paid less. Girls should raise their voice as they are at work because of their capability. You may end up loosing a few battles but in the end the war will be won. Women should not ask for any special privileges at work as this itself can lead to discrimination. Competition should be between two individuals and not between a man and a woman. The new generation can and should change things. It was in all a very inspiring and motivating lecture.
