On Thursday, 2nd July 2015, RCP Shivajinagar made a very satisfying start of the club’s “Happy Village Project”. We have identified village Mazeri amongst the cluster of eight or nine small villages in Bhor taluka for the first phase of the project. It is a virgin land in the backwaters area of Nira Deoghar dam in Bhor region. Inspite of heavy rainfalls, the villages face water shortages in summer because the soil is such that rain water harvesting becomes tough job. The schools cater to children from 1st to 7th standard children in one classroom only. There is no electricity. The villagers just depend on the farming and farm produces which are not sufficient. The young generation is migrating to towns and cities leaving old and very old and few children behind. The work will involve minimum 5years of untiring efforts right from changing the mindset of the villagers. On 2nd July we did “Dental checkup”, “Eye checkup”, “Anemia checkup (children between 5th to 7th std)” in both Mazeri and Shirwali villages, with the help of ambulance donated by RCP Shivajinagar under matching grant project. Dentist Rtn Deepa Sathe from RCP Shivajinagar did the dental checkup and staff of Columbus Ambulance did eye and anemia checkup. We will be giving the Iron and phosphorus tablets to needy children for next three months and will consistently be doing monitoring. The children were identified for dental treatment and further action required will be taken with the help of District team. We also distributed school kits for the children. The school children along with the Rotarians participated in tree plantation of medicinal plants. Total 11 Rotarians and 2 anns participated in the project.
