As you know due to the lack of rainfall last year we are facing severe water issues which are still continuing even now. But lack of rainfall is not the only reason for the scarcity of water in the dams. Due to the large accumulation of silt the dams capacity to store water has been greatly reduced. Initiated in May 2012, the de-silting drive was launched to remove the loose soil around the dam which had washed off into it over the years. A year later, the initiative has already helped clear more than two kilometers of the stretch, with a width of 50 meters and depth of 1 meter. The target is to de-silt a 22-km stretch along both sides of the dam till Panshet. Col. Patil of green thumb came to our club as guest speaker on 22n May. On 29th May our Members visited the site. Did tree plantation. We donated Rs. 15000 to green thumb for their work.
