President Gauri motivated all the members of Rotary Club of Pune Shivajinagar to lead by self example in avoiding of plastics in polythene bags. Members collected totally 1200 kgs of old newspapers in this year and handed these over to two organizations Apte Prashala for challenged ( Muk Badhir ) students and Sakhee Bachat Gat ( thru' Rotarian Surendra Shroff of RC Pune Central ). We were informed by expert Rtn Surendra Shroff that from 300 kgs about 5000 bags are created. ( i.e. every kilogram of newspaper about 17 paper bags get created.) From 1200 kgs about 20,400 bags were crafted. IMPACT 1. Generated source of income for economically weak / physically challenged members of society. The bag creators were financially benefited to the tune of Rs 100,000/- after selling the bags at an average price of Rs 5/bag. 2. Environment was saved from infusion of 20,400 non-destructible plastic bags. 3. Participation by every member of the club through out the year. Mail by Surendra Shroff Dear President Rtn. Deepak Ji , On our request you and your club members were kind enough to collect newspapers and deliver the same to my place through your car during entire Rotary year of 2015/16 to be used for our clubs project of imparting skill of making carry bags from news papers and for earning their livelihood. Our heartfelt thanks to you and members of Rotary club of Pune Shivajinagar for collecting and donating about 1,200 kgs. of news papers during entire rotary year 2015/16 for making carry bags from them. About 72,000 carry bags were made by them and that many plastic bags were replaced by these bags. They have produced these bags from the papers donated by you. They have earned Rs. 54,000 by selling these bags to fruit vendors and ice cream parlors from Deccan Gymkhana area. PAUD Sakhi Mandal is an NGO which is run by Smt. Madhuri ji Sudhir Mandke in her honorary capacity for the benefit of local ladies from Paud area. About 50 ladies are engaged in this activity and the ladies work from their homes as and when time permits. They work between 2 to 8 hours per day. Last year they have produced and sold about 5 lakh bags and have earned about Rs. 12,00,000 ] This generous donation of you all will go a long way in enhancing the scope of our project and will protect the environment and will help earn livelihood for the members of Paud Sakhi Mandal, Paud which is situated in Mulshi Taluka. They all join me in conveying our heartfelt thanks to president and members of your Rotary club. After learning about your clubs collection drive of news papers other 10 Rotary clubs from our district got inspired and have started collecting newspapers for us and for which we are indeed thankful to you.
